DC

Happy (almost) 3 day weekend!!

There's something magical about the Friday morning before a three day weekend. The sun is a little brighter, the winter cold a little less cold ... The Starbucks barista made my Americano in less than 5 minutes, Bao Bao was on the cover of the metro's Express, and a co-worker brought everyone everything bagels! Not to mention ... Everyone in my Government building is extra happy and cheery. People are already wishing each other a good weekend at 10am over here!

In case you're in DC and looking for things to do this weekend.. Here is my super ambitious weekend wish list:

- Happy hour and tacos at El Rey

- Karaoke in Adams Morgan

- make it to my favorite dance class at Vida Fitness

- Visit Bao Bao, the ultimate celebrity in dc these days

(Rusty is getting jealous remember Rusty?)

- Viceroy at U street music hall

- Make Pozole (recipe on blog) & green chile chicken enchiladas for my roommates

- Visit the Genome exhibit at the Smithsonian Natural History museum

- re-watch Frances Ha (because it was that good)

- Go on a bike ride on Monday ... Because it's supposed to be 50 and Sunny!

Let's see how much actually happens ...

Happy 3 day weekend everyone!

Thread at Union Market -- Day 1

Fun times at Thread's first day. Made it to Union Market (though it was tempting to stay inside and watch movies), and met some cool folks like Virginia (De Nada), Julien (Redeem) and Rebecca (Rebecca Atwood). There were some DC, NY, East Coast designers, even one from SF. It was a little smaller than I expected, but everyone was super nice and friendly. A good selection and a gorgeous intimate space. It would be awesome if this was up year round with rotating designers. The market part felt a bit like the Ferry Building. Paid almost $8 for a juice, but it was amazing. I think the jingle bell reindeer ornament was my favorite find. There are still two days left, with The Walkmen concert tomorrow night. Saturday (11-8) and Sunday (11-5)--definitely worth checking out. 1309 5th NE.

Pop-Up Shop LOCAL this Black Friday!

IN DC? Thread

I may or may not be in line at Best Buy on Thanksgiving ;), but I will definitely be checking out Thread at Dock 5 on Friday in DC. Union Market will be hosting 30 local and national designers for a 3-day pop-up with live music and swanky food (or at least this is what I imagine, I have not yet been, still getting used to the 'DMV'--are you an R or a D? ahhhhh).

Friday 1-8pm, Saturday 11-8pm (The Walkmen concert at 7pm), Sunday 11-5pm. NoMA/Gallaudet (Red Line) 1309 5th NE @unionmarketdc

IN SF?

PoptGambit

Etxe will be part of the Popt Gambit in SOMA at 440 Brannan -- remotely! So Popt is a new app where you can tag your products/clothes and people can scan them at the pop-up shop and buy then or buy later. The app allows designers to set up their own prices, let customers bid on prices, and test out different price points. I meet one of the founders Kelley through a friend (and fellow designer Clare of Scout's Honor Clothing Co) and the entire process of scanning in my two products was super easy and fun.

Now I can have designs at pop-ups anywhere! Popt takes 10% (which includes merchant fees), so it is a pretty nice way to allow customers to 'collect' your items and prompts buying at a later date, which is great because how many times have you left a pop-up shop and totally forgotten all those great pieces?  I've seen MANY apps trying to do kind of similar things; this is the first one that actually makes sense.

Other designers at Popt Gambit include Mitsymoto DesignsPop OuterwearEdgefieldUSAD StructureDerby JacketsTradlands,  Scout's Honor Clothing Co, Nesting Days440 resident designersHieros, EstrellaRic RacUmber and OchreDepartment 17.

Oh and it is an open bar. So yeah, the only place to recover if you are joining the hordes at the big box retailers. No judgement.

Friday Lounge 1-7pm, Happy Hour 3-7pm. 440 Brannan Street. Powell Bart or Cab it. @poptag_it
