ARTIST STATEMENT

My autobiographical paintings emerge from a necessity to document my experiences and leave a lasting trace. I combine digital and hand-drawn techniques to transform personal moments into static images on canvas or clay, often reflecting on the complexities of parenting, community engagement, and carrying life and death within me. I draw from a range of sources—daily sketches, family stories, mestizo culture, and even my mythical cat, Lala, who connects me to my ancestors. By blending ancient materials like cochineal ink with contemporary techniques like glaze decals, I capture the duality of my identity as a mestiza Chicana and Jewish matriarch, freezing moments that would otherwise slip away.
